About Us

From Humble Beginnings to an Iconic Landmark

The story of Le Beau Rivage begins in 1946, when Paule Castaing, an iconic figure among the famed mères lyonnaises, and her husband Raymond transformed a modest riverside tavern, La Maison du Pêcheur, into an elegant hotel-restaurant: Le Beau Rivage. Nestled at the foot of the Condrieu and Côte-Rôtie vineyards, the establishment quickly became a sought-after stopover on the journey between Paris and the Côte d’Azur.

A Michelin-Starred Legacy

Under Paule Castaing’s leadership, Le Beau Rivage earned its first Michelin star in 1956 and a second in 1964, maintaining both until her retirement in 1988.

The cuisine masterfully blended Lyonnais tradition with Mediterranean flair, featuring signature dishes such as pike quenelle with lobster salpicon, perfectly paired with local grands crus like Condrieu and Côte-Rôtie.

An Architectural Renaissance

In 1988, Pascal and Jeannine Humann took the helm, drawn by the property’s timeless charm. Between 2000 and 2002, they undertook a complete reconstruction, preserving the soul of the house while modernizing its facilities.

Today, under the culinary direction of Chef Ludovic Mounier, Le Beau Rivage continues to honor its gastronomic heritage. Recognized by Gault & Millau, the restaurant remains faithful to the spirit of Paule Castaing, offering an authentic and refined dining experience.

A New Chapter

In 2025, the Bérard family took over the reins, determined to preserve this local institution while expanding and diversifying its offerings. Their ambition: to transform Le Beau Rivage from a charming stopover into a true destination in its own right—always with respect for its rich history and heritage.
